to the top of the tower of St Mary's?
Looking over the edge
lay the streets of Cambridge
as the warm summer air
blew through our hair
you held my hand as we sat for awhile
Looking over the city and streets of cobbled stone
sitting so high like two kings on a throne
we kissed in the sun as the church bells rang.
I was lost in your eyes
between earth and blue skies
drowning in your smile as our hearts beat as one
while down in Market Square
a busker sang a song
that rose like a choir
to the cloud we were on
Now the Bells of St Mary's still ring in my ears
every time that you hold me
even after all these years
And if we ever go back I'll scratch our names into the stone
Pembroke was shining like a n old weathered stone
peoples sipping cocktails
and a band on the lawn
In the chapel stood a nervous groom
best man was his brother
as the bride made an entrance
like the Spanish Armada
We all raised our voices to the glories of love
that rose the the heavens through the rafters above
And when it was over we all gave a cheer
and toasted the couple with
Champagne and beer
Grantham was sunny there were blossoms in the trees as we
sat in the shade with Plowman's lunch on our knees
remembering the young poets
who used to lay there
with the grass for a mattress
breathing in the same air
Now the Bells of St Mary's still ring in my ears
